About this deal

If however you fancy trying your hand at paddling and want to enjoy some gentle lake touring or the odd adventure out on a calm sea, then an inflatable kayak will be perfect. If you wanted to go cheaper or maybe needed a kayak which could be used solo and tandem then we’d suggest looking at one of the hybrid type kayaks with a drop stitch floor but with pvc tubular sides. There are a number of such kayaks out there, like some of the Itiwit, Aqua Marina, Aquaglide, etc ones. Ideally, if your resources allowed, you could get the Ottowa type solo kayak for using alone and the tandem version when going with someone.

I was used to this style of kayak since we already had been using the ‘Bismark’ (a tandem kayak which is the same as this type of kayak) for almost 9 months already before doing this review. I therefore used the same setup up as we did with the tandem, namely: You’ll notice several Sea Eagle kayaks on this blog. Sea Eagle is one of the oldest and most reliable brands for inflatable kayaks. Kayaking on the sea however is free of charge, and I’d recommend you venture out in beaches which are both lifeguarded and allow kayaks (not every beach does). Inflatable Kayak Safety You even have places to attach fishing rod holders, although it appears that they aren’t positioned in the best place possible since if there are 2 of you in the boat facing inwards, someone will have the rods in their face.

If you are kayaking on waterways in England or Wales, then you might need a license (although this is not the case on all UK waterways).

If you think you will want an inflatable raft that can be used solo or with a friend, then this is the perfect option. Fran has done more paddle boarding than kayaking and he adopted some paddle boarding positions off an on, such as kneeling and even standing up in the Ottowa. The stability and the firm drop stitch floor makes this quite easy to do. The Aquatec came through unscathed despite hitting number of underwater boulders due to low levels of the Wye We hoped in vain that Fran would lose his balance and fall in The stability of the Ottowa allows it to be used like a SUP 8 July 2022 – Porthclais to Solve 6 miles sea kayak

The extra weight of the second person submerged the spot in the hull where there must have been a split in the fabric. When we had been using it as a solo kayak this small split in the rear of the hull was not below the water line so we were oblivious to the problem. Shame because we did like it and would have kept it otherwise. 3 panel full drop stitch kayaks It easy to forget to put the keg on when launching and just as easy to forget it’s on the kayak when you come to land. You do develop the habit of watching out for the skeg with usage though. Not strictly speaking relevant to the review but a nice pic of a dolphin that I passed near Llangrannog Utilising the rolled up carry bag as a footrest 11 July 2022 – Mwnt to Cardigan – 9 miles sea and estuary kayak Pennel Orca on the other hand is more resistant to chemicals and UV rays, however is often more expensive. If you are going to be using your inflatable kayak regularly then you will likely be better off going with the more expensive but more resistant material. A great sea fishing kayak that I would argue is the best two-man inflatable I’ve had the pleasure of fishing from – very close to a 10 out of 10!

We take a look at two man kayaks, solo fishing canoes and inflatable kayaks to give you a good range of options to choose from. The review is of the solo version of the Ottowa kayak. Networld sports also sell a larger, tandem version of this kayak which is longer and slightly wider. We do not, at the time of this review, own the AquaTec tandem version of the AquaTec kayak. However, we had for about 9 months before doing this review used a tandem kayak (which we christened ‘the Bismark’) which is essentially the same as the tandem version of the AquaTec kayak. We have therefore been able to draw comparisons between the solo and tandem versions of this kayak. We will be doing a separate review of the tandem version. Price We have little hesitation in recommending it. It may not be for those of you who only want to just potter about off a beach now and again but if you want to go out on longer journeys and explore rivers and coastlines then it’s a great kayak. It is essentially more of a ‘high end’ kayak. This canadian-style fishing canoe is perfect for all kinds of sea fishing adventures out on the open ocean.Keep in mind that if the water is cold, you may notice some effect on the air pressure whilst you’re out paddling. It catches the wind a bit when the wind is blowing strong. To be fair, this is an issue for all inflatables since they tend to sit more on the water rather than in the water like hard shells do. This is more of an issue when it’s a cross wind from the side, not so much when you are going straight into the wind or with the wind coming straight from behind.

There was an offshore wind of about 15 knots or so which made the kayaking slightly challenging at times. The first mile or so was in particular quite choppy and rough but fortunately it settled down for most of the remainder of the route. A tough test for the Ottowa on it’s maiden voyage! To inflate the kayak, you connect the rubber hose to the connector on the pump marked “out”. The pump can also be used to deflate the kayak by connecting the rubber hose to the other side of pump and then pumping which pumps the air out. Inflation is the same as SUP’s or other drop stitch kayaks This could make a huge difference to your experience out on the water, especially if you are on rapids which need to maximum level of control and comfort so you can focus on navigating them safely. Consider whether you want one or two seats, how much weight the kayak needs to carry, and how you’ll store and transport the boat. If you’ll be carrying the boat yourself, make sure it’s light enough to lift and folds up small enough to manage easily. With the warm weather across Britain, kayaking is an excellent way to explore the country, whether with old friends or new ones you make by joining a paddling club. This was a 7 mile kayak on the River Teifi. The river was initially quite shallow and fast in parts due to the drought but opened up downstream and became more estuarine towards Cardigan. Launching from below Llechryd Bridge – the carry bag allows you to launch from almost anywhere you can get to the water The Kayak we buy will sometimes be used by just one person on slow flowing rivers and canals, I know the 385 would be fine with one person but need to make sure that the 465 would still be usable if only one person is on board or would it be very hard work and difficult to manoeuvre? Key specs – Total weight: 13kg; Length: 360cm; PSI: 3.0; Material: Nitrilon; How much can it carry? 180kg; Accessories? Bag, repair kit, skeg/keel, but no paddles or pump
