About this deal

The cheese and chocolate bar on the sideboard suggests to me that we are in Switzerland rather than one of the other Alpine countries!

Although it's not unheard of for boxes to proclaim that the set is limited edition, it is not usual. I don’t know what happened in Australia, but it’s not a problem with government in the US. It’s a problem with government in California. They have a few really bad laws on the books that created this problem. One is that it’s too easy to challenge new construction, which was done to allow the little guy to stand up to corporate interests, but wealthy communities have weaponized in the spirit of NIMBY to keep affordable housing from dragging down real estate value. Downstairs, there's a kitchen on the left, complete with tall fridge and cooker, a table in the middle, and a pair of chairs either side of another table. It's the first time I've encountered a 1126 TILE 1X2, 1/2 CIRCLE, used here for the table-top. Voorhees Hall, which is the third oldest building on Hope campus, and I assume fairly traditional Dutch architecture from the time.Be inspired by different cultures as you build the first in a collection of LEGO® Houses of the World. In tribute to the buildings of South America, this house (40583) features distinctive architectural details. The theme continues inside with South American interior decor. The modular design means this house can be combined with others from the collection (40590, 40594 and 40599) – each available separately. The building sits on a 10x12 base and stands about 13cm tall. The bright orange and dark azure walls evoke the vibrantly painted buildings of the area, and the orange and dark tan 49307 PLATE 1X1X2/3, OUTSIDE BOWs make great roof tiles. It's best to just get it for free if you were planning to get something else anyway above the threshold, but I rather control when and how much I spend. I don’t think there’s good value here, and this reeks of 76210 Hulkbuster where LEGO are trying ridiculous prices and increasing these thresholds without providing commensurate in return. I was just saying white and blue because these houses are pretty 'big'(i.e. popular) as a souvenir from the Netherlands. (they are small: 3x5x2 inches - width*height*depth roughly!)

The ground floor looks suitably cosy, furnished with an L-shaped sofa around a log fire, a record player in the corner, and a sideboard on the right. Cook Hall (the attached Haworth Center was built at the same time, in the same style). Looks like trash. Well, Argentina is at the far other end of South America, and this is supposed to represent that little bit that sometimes gets lumped in with North America, even though it’s technically on its own continental plate. Well, I can only speak from my personal experience, and from that there is a clear and noticeable downward path. And to top it off, it’s a “meh” set of a house anyway; not something I would put on the shelves with the other pieces I have.

To me that's a clear decline in quality again, and one that seems totally unnecessary since LEGO had already proven that they can do better. I know someone who did start building microscale MOCs of the Modular series. Then 10230 was released as a GWP that precisely duplicated his efforts…and stopped. He moved across the country soon after, so I have no idea if he ever expanded his own run. It's an attractive and desirable little model which, presumably, is the first of what may well become a highly collectable and interesting series of sets. As it can be useful to see how much stuff you're getting for free here's a picture showing the unopened bags:
