About this deal

Where he is unsure of something, he admits it, though I'd be careful to deviate from such a sound philosopher. The book, along with his arguments for the existence of God, have frequently received academic evaluation, [29] [30] either complimenting or critical. Also listened to it a couple times on audio over the course of a few years, finishing the second time through in October 2011.

Most of the book is based on church (not Biblical) teachings, which are only really emphasized inside certain denominations. Lewis spends the first section using rhetorical devices and logic to try to prove that religion is better than atheism. But even with the certain issues I disagree with Lewis on, there is still a lot of wisdom and truth to be learned from this book. Every Wednesday from 7:45 pm to 8 pm during August 1941, Lewis gave live talks entitled "Right or Wrong: A Clue to the Meaning of the Universe" which would become the first book in Mere Christianity. It starts off with an appeal to every man's human nature, then goes about covering every base as to why man's nature is the way it is. Eventually, he arrives at Jesus Christ, and invokes a well-known argument now known as Lewis's trilemma. Myers of Theology Today noted, "This is clear, it is simple, it is eminently Christian, and it is typical of the ease with which Mr. The virtue/vice lists and the trinity concept - these are frameworks that have been placed on the practice of religion, more of a way of talking about morality than anything else.

Both their wives are rustling up something to eat in the kitchen and talking about whatever mysterious things women find so interesting. The first set of talks became very popular and flooded Lewis with responses from an adoring and irate public. I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.On the general reception to the book, the Lewis biographer Margaret Patterson Hannay described it as his "most popular and .

The BBC journalist Justin Phillips observed that it "continues to transform the lives of those who read it.

I still don't know how he even thought of illustrations that so perfectly captured the heart of his topic, but everything he said was just so clear and lucidly expressed to the reader exactly what he wanted to say. It explains the sometimes difficult concepts and thoughts of Christianity in an accessible and easy to understand way. Lewis is the ideal persuader for the half convinced, for the good man who would like to be a Christian but finds his intellect getting in the way. So, he feels that this moral law is real and its bearing down on us from somewhere and that somewhere is definitely not from us.
