Ahead of the highly-anticipated return of Game of Thrones this April, we can raise a glass to the Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection as it officially hits stores across certain European countries. Clynelish distillery’s landscape echoes the geography of House Tyrell’s green and fertile HighGarden home in the land of Westeros. This single malt has an underlying, complex combination of Highland and maritime notes, complemented by bursts of fresh tropical fruits that give way to a smooth vanilla character.

Reviews

Mark: “It only takes a little bit of imagination to link the whisky to the House it represents. For example: linking Talisker to the House Greyjoy makes sense. Talisker is a coastal distillery on the Isle of Skye, while the House Greyjoy are a sea-faring people that worship the Drowned God and live on the coast of the Iron Islands. The collection makes sense from this point of view. Representing House Lannister, Lagavulin is the embodiment of the meticulous calculation and tenacity employed by the Lannister’s in their rise to conquer the Iron Throne. This Lagavulin 9 year is a roaring single malt that recalls the Lannisters' riches and is best served neat or with a single drop of water. Nose: Shy and nectar-like. Marzipan croissant, cheese Danish, brioche, plus freshly waxed hardwood floor and clean wool sweater. Creamy, toasty, strange, and a bit tingly in the nose. Nose: Orange zest, milk chocolate, gentle peat smoke, apple, pear, lemon, tangerine. Very appealing. Palate: Mild, building to a malt-driven peak with fresh berries and a touch of crisp citrus. Full-bodied and artful. The tapering, malt-driven finish has biscuits with marmalade, nutmeg, and some nice evolved woody tannin. An interesting mix of confectionery, fruit, and holiday baking space, integrated and textured.

Tasting Notes: Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection House Tully – Singleton of Glendullan Select To celebrate the eighth and final season of the critically-acclaimed TV series, Game of Thrones, Diageo and HBO have released a limited-edition collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. The collection features eight scotch whiskies, each paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros, as well as the Night’s Watch, giving fans an authentic taste of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond. House Stark’s resiliency, strength and ability to thrive under the most intense situations are greatly shaped by Winterfell’s frigid temperatures. Dalwhinnie, known for being one of the highest distilleries in all of Scotland is cold and remote much like Thee North where House Stark calls home, making the two an iconic pairing. Extreme conditions are responsible for shaping the signature Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost honeyed sweetness and spicy warmth. Naturally, it’s best served chilled or over ice. Cardhu Gold Reserve – House Targaryen Game of Thrones

Tasting Notes

House Greyjoy rules the Iron Islands and worships the Drowned God. Talisker was a natural pair for House Greyjoy as this single malt is distilled on the shores of the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote and rugged areas of Scotland. The layered flavors and signature maritime character of Talisker Select Reserve are the result of its wave-battered shores. This liquid is an intense smoky single malt scotch with spicy, powerful and sweet elements combined with maritime flavors. Royal Lochnagar 12-year-old – House Baratheon Game of Thrones In honor of the seven Houses of Westeros, and the legendary Night’s Watch, this collection delivers rich flavors and brilliant illustrations sure to captivate true Game of Thrones fans. Crafted from 100% malted Scottish barley using unique production techniques these single malts are aged in a variety of oak casks. Paired with House Tully is The Singleton of Glendullan. The power of water flows through both House Tully and The Singleton of Glendullan Select. It is decorated with a jumping trout, the sigil of House Tully. Capturing the House Stark is Dalwhinnie, one of the highest distilleries in Scotland that mirrors House Stark’s resiliency, strength and ability to thrive under the most frigid, extreme temperatures. House Targaryen is aptly paired with legendary Scotch house Cardhu. Scotland's own mother of dragons, the rebellious Helen Cumming, trail-blazed the success in making Cardhu one of the most iconic names in Scotch.

The ninth bottle in the range, that was released later by Diageo. Mortlach Six Kingdoms is inspired by the final season of the popular series and brings a homage to the continent of Westeros. The whisky matured in first fill sherry casks and finished in ex-bourbon casks made from American oak. It’s a fruity dram, with mild tones of vanilla, honey and herbs. The bottle comes in the original golden tube, featuring the three eyed raven. Lagavulin – House Lannister Game of Thrones Talisker Select Reserve: Dry Sichuan pepper smoke and dark chocolate aromas on the nose. The palate has a distinctive maritime quality enhanced by caramel notes, spice, smoke, and fruit. The finish is lingering and complex with a leathery character. House Tully located at Riverrun, rules as the lord of The River lands. The power of water flows through both House Tully and The Singleton Glendullan Select as it is made on the banks of the River Fiddich in the wooded hills of Dufftown. Here they harnessed the water that flowed through the land utilizing a water wheel to power the entire distillery. Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost – House Stark Game of Thrones Mark: “For whisky lovers this is an exciting collection, primarily because some of the bottles (not all!) contain a completely new variation of their beloved Scotch, such as Lagavulin, Talisker or Clynelish. The Glendullan was originally only available in the United States, but now comes to Europe as well. A great opportunity to collect all 9 bottles being released as part of the build up to the 8th and final season of HBO's Game of Thrones series, whish is set to air April 14th 2019. In collaboration with Diageo, 9 iconic, limited release single malts have been paired with the 7 kingdoms of Westeros and the Night's Watch, to create a truly unique collection that's a must for series fans and serious collectors alike.Lagavulin is one of the most legendary single malt brands and has been crafted on the shores of Islay for more than 200 years – mirroring the meticulous calculation and tenacity employed by the Lannister’s in their rise to conquer the Iron Throne. This single malt whisky is a roaring single malt that recalls the Lannister’s riches and is best served neat or with a single drop of water. The Singleton of Glendullan Select – House Tully Game of Thrones Nose: Classic Lagavulin here. Banana and dried mango, puffs of wet smoke, sandalwood, incense, rich malt syrup, and that damp wool sweater you wore to a barbecue and left wadded up in your trunk. Enrico: “Collecting the GOT whisky is definitely fun, all the different label, edition, names - they all appeal in different ways. But I think that it's smart to buy what tastes good, or what we believe is likely to be good whisky to drink.”
