About this deal

After a few seconds the "Enter Maintenance Mode Y/N (Y: POWER)" message appears towards the bottom of the screen. Immediately release the down arrow button. I had a spare laptop hard disk (Hitachi, 80Gb) so I followed these instructions to fit, and it kinda worked – the box was now ‘alive’, it would record the current programme if I pressed the record button, but anything I set to record failed. Maybe it was something to do with the hard disk not being ‘video’ grade, or the small size… If you do not have a BT TV subscription but your box is still connected to the internet then updates will still go ahead as you are used to. BT do still have some control over when updates take place on your 91-00438 but there is no differentiation between one using a BT TV subscription, one using BT as their ISP but no subscription, and one using a different ISP.

Manhattan T3-R vs Humax DTR-T2100. Which is the Best

I stand to be corrected but my understanding is that the hard drive is just a storage device for recordings. The firmware that runs the box is stored in memory on the mainboard. So in theory the box should be able to boot with or without the drive present. It's not the same as a PC where the OS is stored on the drive so obviously can't boot without the drive present and correct. Apologies to resurrect this thread. I have just installed a new one of these which I bought in 2015. I bought it and then got a sky deal so it just stayed in its box. Multi room subscription finishes today so thought it best to install it in the bedroom for the wife. Lastly, on the flip side, if the HDD is ok, is there anyway I can recover the recordings e.g. via PC? Alternatively, if I could get hold of another working DTR2100 cheaply, could I swap the HDDs on them and have the replacement one read the HDD from this box? There are no fans, so it’s virtually silent except for the exceptionally quiet whirring of the laptop-style hard drive. Unless you’re right next to the box, this is inaudible, so it’s ideal for bedrooms as well as the living room or kitchen. Note that the Ultra HD version does have a fan, which can be a little irritating in a quiet room. It may well be that the new box is slightly less sensitive and therefore COM7 is just below the digital threshold of its reception capability. (Does it permit manual tuning to frequency channel 31? If so that may show up as a poor signal level and/or quality readout. You could also compare it to the readings given on your box that works OK.) For recording radio programes all youview boxes are unreliable. This is due to the youview boxes having no manual option for setting up timers. Even when I was trying to use my DTR-T2100 as my prime device I had to keep my HDR-FOX T2 fully running in parallel for radio programmes. I have a slightly newer Sony Brava TV and can't recall a single issue with handshaking (unlike my HDR-2000T). HDMI handshaking for me is as sold as with my HDR-FOX T2s (1.03.12 and 1.02.20). The YouView user interface here is the same as you'll find on the old BT box, as well as on unbranded boxes, or that from rivals TalkTalk. The actual BT element only really impacts on the experience when you step into the sections that BT adds to the mix.

Personally think dead HDD is getting more likely as apart from the beeping I mentioned it is 100% silent, no HDD noise at all and usually there is a little HDD noise on these boxes. The new youview software that TalkTalk are rolling out over the next couple of months should improve at least some aspects of the slowness. If a new machine or plugging into a PC lets you play the recordings then that is a bonus. If not then you are not really in any different a position to currently. APV used to work albeit very sluggishly compared to Netflix, having seen the Software update link I note that the new version was rolled out from 10 Oct, shortly before my problem started. Could the new software release be the cause of my problem? Thank you for your replies, I read some where that the HD content only is encrypted, can anyone confirm this. There are 4 other resets and with the appropriate selection you can reload the software and keep your recordings.

Question - BT DTR-T2100 HDMI / HDCP Problems? | AVForums Question - BT DTR-T2100 HDMI / HDCP Problems? | AVForums

These instructions to fix my BT box are an absolute godsend. The tell-tale sign of a beeping HDD was enough to convince me that this was worthwhile pursuing….and sure enough it worked. The only problem I had was trying to get the maintenance screen up once the HDD had been replaced – it took about 3-4 attempts before the box finally responded and after that it was plain sailing from then on in. Box is fully up and running now. So thanks for the instructions and saving another bit of kit from going to set top box heaven – as well as doing my bit for saving the planet. When any youview box, including those not previously associated or obtained from BT, will do within a few hours of being connected to BT as an ISP, will change themselves to have BT livery, including the BT epg clutter. So, is there an explanation? I'm guessing the tuner in the DTR-T2100 is either more or less sensitive than the DTR-T1000 and is being affected by not differentiating between East and West Midlands frequencies. Is a variable attenuator or a booster likely to make any difference? Is the aerial somehow at fault in both houses?
