You can also use dark wax to enhance raised details on certain pieces. Use a rug or thin brush to apply it on the desired area wipe off excess with a clean rug.

Briwax Finishing Wax is made from bees wax and carnuba wax. Briwax clear and coloured waxes are ideal for furniture, skirting, internal doors and more. Choose colour tones that match the natural tone of wood or a darker colour tone (trial application). You can apply wax right away. It will get darker and a little harder to remove It, if you decide to. The look is a very antiqued one, not so subtle. Today’s contributor is Patricia from The Wood Spa and she is a sharing a tutorial on how to use dark wax to age furniture. All posts contributed by Patricia for Grillo Designs can be found HERE . The wood species below are not recommended for Polyx-Oil Original. Please use Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin instead.

Immediately after applying it, wipe off the excess using a clean rag. How much wax you remove is up to you. Remove more if you want just a subtle antique look, such in this chair, or leave most of it if you want it to look beautifully old. For a more subtle stained effect, apply thinly with a lint-free cloth and within 20 minutes, wipe away cleanly and evenly. Ventilate well while drying. Beeswax Paste with Pure Turpentine is a traditional paste wax that nourishes wood and gives an authentic finish to furniture.... wax will make your furniture piece a bit darker in color but will leave a smooth buttery finish. If you don’t want this look, then don’t wax but it will be prone to scuffs and chips.

After 2-3 weeks, the floor surface is fully cured. Adding dark furniture wax adds such great depth to a painted piece of furniture. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to add clear wax and dark wax to a piece of furniture. No I don’t wait for the dark wax to dry, I use the clear wax right on top of the dark wax so it can move together. the longer the wax stays on, the harder the wax gets. If I’m selling a piece of furniture, I make sure to not move it/transport it for a good week so the wax has time to really set and harden For application on antique or fine furniture apply the wax with a clean white lint-free cloth and allow to dry. When dry, buff to a fine finish with a clean white lint-free cloth. Further applications may be made in the same manner and will give increased hardness and shine.

Intensive colour (two coats): with Osmo Flat Brush or Microfibre Roller, apply very thinly to the clean and dry wood surface along the wood grain and spread well. Ventilate well while drying. Apply the second coat – also thinly. if you ever need to repaint the furniture piece again, you’ll need to take the wax off first with a solvent (like paint thinner) or the paint won’t adhere.
