Allyson chose to practice in midwifery, as she felt it was a great honour and privilege to bring life into the world. She enjoyed a rewarding and enriching career, both in clinical and managerial roles. She lectured extensively, wrote many professional articles, studied up to Masters degree level and became a popular and knowledgeable advocate for women. In 2002, she was awarded an MBE from the Queen for her “outstanding contribution to the development of the midwifery services for women in London”.
