He is DANGEROUS and UNPREDICTABLE with a hair-trigger temper. James comes very close to weakening Christian too much in "Grey." Through Anna's eyes it is easier to convey the danger by showing her constant apprehension and fear of Christian's reactions. But once we are inside Christian's head and privy to his thoughts, how do you transform him through love without losing dangerous and mysterious elements? The danger must be tempered with compassion and love but never to the point of emasculation. Therein lies the problem. I think she succeeds. There has also been criticism against the fact that BDSM is a part of the book. Archbishop Dennis Schnurr of Cincinnati said in an early February 2015 letter, "The story line is presented as a romance; however, the underlying theme is that bondage, dominance, and sadomasochism are normal and pleasurable." [42] The feminist anti-pornography organization Stop Porn Culture called for a boycott of the movie based on the book because of its sex scenes involving bondage and violence. [43] By contrast, Timothy Laurie and Jessica Kean argue that "film fleshes out an otherwise legalistic concept like 'consent' into a living, breathing, and at times, uncomfortable interpersonal experience," and "dramatises the dangers of unequal negotiation and the practical complexity of identifying one's limits and having them respected." Retrieved 18 November 2013.James has captured this archetypical man for us and put him in the modern world. Many serious and not-so-serious writers try but fail and we get literary crap or porn or shallow attempts at romance. She has done it without having an educated literary skill or technique. And she is learning. I will continue to buy every book she writes. I now see Christian clearer, and as I originally thought, much of the negative feeling about Christian was due to Ana simply being too immature, and sometimes, even thoughtless. In fact, if Christian had known her thoughts, his opinion about her may have changed drastically. She simply couldn't see how much pain he was in when she tried to touch him. So, she constantly kept trying to even though he constantly begged her not to. And she kept on about Elena, and at this point of their relationship, he was right. It was none of Ana's business. She was a producer on each of the three Fifty Shades movies, which made more than a billion dollars at the box office. The third installment, Fifty Shades Freed, won the People’s Choice Award for Drama in 2018. O: And the elevator doors close, leaving my name hanging in the air, sounding odd, unfamiliar, but sexy as hell. Always so eager for information, Miss Steele. Whats needs straightening out?" Her skin is soft and warm...

I don't think a person needs to use profanity, and E.L. used too much in her first books. I don't think profanity makes you sound smarter or in any way more interesting. Now, that may be a given, but I don't want people reading my review, thinking that is what I'm saying. The premise of Grey holds so much potential. As readers, we wanted to know why Christian fell in love with Ana and what made him pursue her as he did. We wanted to know what made a man so set in his ways change his mindset for the woman he loves. I’m not really sure this book offers any definitive answers to that. In fact, I’m not sure we learn much more than we did in the other books, and that’s a real shame. The biggest flaw with the 50 Shades trilogy is James repetitive writing style and her use of phrasing that belongs in a bygone era. (How Christian’s trousers “hung in that way” and Ana’s irritating “inner goddess”.) You would expect that by her fourth book, and considering that there has been extensive criticism about her writing ability, she would have made more of an effort but this does not seem to have been the case. In fact, it appears that James has looked at the transcript of 50 Shades of Grey and purely altered the perspective, adding a few memories of Christian as a child. There are clues there for the reader to make their own mind up, but this is not what I would expect from a book that is supposedly meant to answer those questions left unanswered by its predecessor. C: Damn. (italics) I have to endure an interview with the persistent Miss Kavanagh for the WSU student newspaper. Why the hell did I agree to this? (italics). I loathe interviews -- inane questions from ill-informed, envious people intent on probing my private life. And she's a student. (italics) The phone buzzes. Flood, Alison (5 December 2012). For instance, people being angry, and castigating Christian for wanting to use "Anastasia" instead of using "Ana". Yet now we know that the sound of Ana was too close to Ella, his mother. And that brought too many ugly memories to the surface. We would have never known or understood that before. People just thought that he was a mean, control freak, uncaring person.

She is a dilemma. She is like nothing he has ever encountered and his confusion is therefore ten-fold. Although he wants her absolute submission, it takes time for him to admit to himself that just maybe Ana won't be that woman. You know his wants are to say the least, "particular". Nevertheless, when the crux of the matter is presented on a silver plate, he oversteps the mark resulting in an omnishambles because deep down, he thought she was his to have.
