About this deal

Shardlake develops a strong attention to detail when it comes to the law, as well as being a wonderful investigator.

CJ Sansom's 'Shardlake' series has sold over two million copies, and this atmospheric dramatisation starring BAFTA-winning actor Jason Watkins (The Lost Honour of Christopher Jeffries) brings his d‚but novel to electrifying life. I could walk the streets with Shardlake and Barak, I knew where the prisoners were housed and where the Royal Progress was to gather. Elizabeth Tudor, the intellectual daughter of the king who has a similar temper to that of her father, but has a longing to help the Boleyn family in honor of her mother. Sansom, a historian himself, never produces a plot that feels anachronistic or as if it couldn’t have happened. In the autumn of 1541 Henry VIII had set out on his spectacular royal progress to the north of England. He and Barak ponder how to get into them and, once opened, the cache reveals something that Shardlake could not have imagined. This is the third in this series and, with 658 pages split into 48 chapters, it is another brick of a book. Catherine Parr, the scholar turned queen whose writings and her views on religious reform walk a fine line between what is acceptable and what is considered heretical. I think it would expand the world for the readers and give them a taste of other royal dynasties and what else was going on in the world during the time of the Tudor dynasty in England.

I will say that if you enjoyed the first two books, you have to continue the journey with Matthew Shardlake and Jack Barak in “Sovereign” by C. And when Shardlake and Barak stumble upon a cache of secret papers which could threaten the Tudor throne, a chain of events unfolds that will lead Shardlake facing the most terrifying fate of the age . There is no woman in Shardlake’s life and it does seem that he is jealous of Barak’s relationship with Tamasin – not because he’s attracted to Tamasin himself but because he resents his friend having another attachment. Twelve years have passed since Churchill lost to the appeasers and Britain surrendered to Nazi Germany after Dunkirk. He is the wise old man that heals everyone’s wounds and is a comforting counsel when someone needs his help. What I hadn't appreciated was the organisation that went into a progress such as this – how do you feed, water and house thousands of extra people without a modern infrastructure? Para apuntalarla el rey decide hacer un viaje al norte el año de 1541 (una Jornada), para reprimir traiciones, recabar adhesiones, recibir pleitesías y derrochar su munificencia.

He came to prominence with his series set in the reign of Henry VIII in the 16th century, whose main character is the hunchbacked lawyer Matthew Shardlake. Summary: The third book in Sansom's Shardlake series looks at the royal progress to the north of England. The Goldsboro exclusive edition of "Empire of the Damned" by Jay Kristoff will feature block sprayed. When one thinks about a royal Progress, we often think about the glitz and glam of the royal family traversing the entire country at a leisurely rate to inspire awe for their subjects. With the exception of Henry’s leg, I didn’t feel the reality of the world despite the small details mentioned such as Shardlake’s steel mirror and the rather laboured use of the word “shit”. As the First World War shatters families, destroys friendships and kills lovers, a young Palestinian dreamer sets out to find himself.

And when Shardlake and Barak stumble upon a cache of secret papers which could threaten the Tudor throne, a chain of events unfolds that will lead to Shardlake facing the most terrifying fate of the age . And a third strand is that Shardlake befriends an old lawyer who has had a falling out with his only remaining relative, and wishes to make up with him before he dies, which his physician has told him will be soon. Apparently the king’s Progress is not a very famous fact from history and it was interesting to learn more about it.

Esto generó un gran descontento entre el pueblo y la nobleza del norte, que desembocó en diversos levantamientos armados y conspiraciones que se sucedieron a lo largo del siglo.
