Constructed between 1936-1962 as part of the Ordnance Survey’s retriangulation of Great Britain, this logbook is your ideal hiking companion as you ‘bag’ them all in Lancashire. If you enjoyed reading this post then follow my trig point adventures on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

An excellent explanation of UK coordinate systems can be found in "A guide to coordinate systems in Great Britain" which can be downloaded from here. However, as anyone in the South Pennines knows, if you see a perfectly straight waterway marked on a map it’s an old waterway conduit and as such is highly likely to have a path running alongside it. Beware the electric fences they are live i slipped near the bridge right at the end near the car i grabbed the fence to steady myself and got a right belt! After his death in 1929, his widow, Lady Nina Knowles, presented Turton Tower to Turton Urban District Council in 1930, and it became the council chamber.

Top screed is cracked and missing some pieces and there's some substantial cracking through the pillar. Parked by Res to East, Followed the muddy ROW to the Trig which is situated on a small hill, its in good condition , with a plastic cap and the sight holes are open .

Horrobin Mill Bleachworks, one of the oldest bleachworks in the Bolton area, ceased trading in 1937 after 150 years activity. Turton Towers has a long and varied history with many famous occupants including Humphrey Chetham, who founded the famous music school in Manchester. At this point there’s another out-and-back leg to reach the White Hill Trig point, just outside of Yorkshire in Lancashire. I presume when that is the case and sponsors change there has to be as lot of messing about changing the name again?
