The mop function is also great, but it’s not quite as thorough or deep of a cleaning job as it would be if I did it myself.The setup instructions recommend setting the charging station up in an area with 40 inches of clearance on each side, but I set it up under a chair with less than four inches on each side and the vacuum still found the charger flawlessly. I have mine set to run every night at midnight, and it’s quiet enough that it doesn’t wake us up (although, my whole family uses sound machines at night so that helps! Robot vacuums have been around for long enough where this is a basic feature that should just exist and work well, so I’m always surprised by bots that can’t keep themselves out of trouble. In essence, not only does the SpinWave R5 validate Bissell’s battery life claims, it can exceed them if just a little bit. As part of our larger testing process, we put a total of eight robot mops up to a series of cleaning tasks.

Plus, its compact form allows it to navigate into tighter areas, getting around and under obstacles more readily. It got closer to 80% of some debris on the floor, but when it was finished, I could still see a substantial amount of flour on the floor and needed to manually clean it up (I guess I could also have run the mop too). Luckily, once you’ve drawn your zones, you can determine whether they get vacuumed, vacuumed and mopped or are off limits. With this robot, to some extent, you need to choose whether you want to vacuum, or vacuum and mop at once.

In my cleaning tests I sent it to tidy up both a fresh coffee spill, damp coffee grounds, and dried coffee stains.We ran each mop, including the SpinWave, a minimum of four times, assessing how well they were able to clean a water spill, a sticky soda spill and dried-on mud stains off a laminate floor.
