The Artist 12 will work with pretty much any computer. It’s compatible with Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux, and even Android OS. If your device has the necessary ports, you shouldn’t have any issues. The same is true for your software. You can dig right in and start working in all Adobe software, GIMP, MediBang, Krita, and others.

If multiple monitors are used in extend mode, go to the monitor tabs to select one of the monitors that the work area of the device will be mapped to. XPPen drawing display is selected by default. Flip it over and on the reverse are the four rubber feet in each corner to keep it stable on your desk – note there is no stand supplied with this tablet (or pen holder for that matter!) 😊 While I found the Artist 12 (2nd Gen) to be a fully functional tool for creating digital art, its limited workspace was difficult to adjust down to after having spent so much time with a much larger pen display. However, for a beginner artist or a hobbyist who is just looking to dabble with digital art, the XP-Pen Artist 12 could be a perfect addition to their workflow. Multi-function, multi-size, multi-color, our new Artist comes with upgrades for an all-new experience.The screen is nice and bright, colors looked excellent and the image was pin-sharp. Working in a bright, but naturally lit room, I didn’t encounter any distracting glares or reflections. That said, the screen resolution is only 1080p. On the one hand, that’s technically all you need on a monitor of this size. Unless your eyes are uncomfortably close, the pixels will be too tiny to see individually. That said, particularly when you’re doing artwork, you might want the confidence of a higher-resolution display. If that’s what you need, take a look at the XP-PEN Artist Pro 16TP. It has a 16-inch screen, as well as 4K UHD resolution. Then again, it’s significantly bigger and bulkier than the Artist 12. The Artist 12 (2nd Gen) marks a big step for XP-Pen to catch up to what some of their competitors have been doing in the budget pen display market. Huion's KAMVAS line, for example, has had a couple of generations of pen displays featuring fully laminated screens, whereas XP-Pen has only just started to implement this feature properly among their Artist series pen displays. The XP-PEN Artist 12 has a vibrant display, capable of reproducing 94% of the Adobe RGB color space. This is equivalent to 90% of NTSC, or 127% of sRGB. For most other screens, this would be overkill. There’s normally not any need for that much vibrancy. But considering that this is an artist display, it makes sense. You want to be able to choose from as many colors as possible, without being limited by your screen. The Artist 12 2nd gen has 8 customizable express keys along one side. Six of them have braille-like bumps on them to give a slight feel at your fingertips for which button is under them. The Artist 10 2nd gen has only 6 express keys, while the Artist 16 has 10 keys.

Color temperature: The driver enables five modes, i.e., low blue light, 6500K (default), 7500K, 9300K, and USER. In the USER mode, color temperature can be customized by adjusting the R, G and B values. Yes, if on a tight budget, have limited desk space, or specifically want to pair with your Android phone. Along with the display itself, you get a bunch of accessories to help you along. To begin with, there’s a stylus, with a sturdy aluminum shaft and built-in control button. The actual nib is replaceable, and there are 10 spares included in the kit. Even if you’re using the stylus constantly, it will take a long time to wear through that many nibs. There’s a two-fingered drawing glove, which keeps you from accidentally triggering the screen with your hand while you’re working. There’s a cleaning cloth, so you can keep the screen clear of dust and smudges. There’s also a three-tipped connection cable and a USB extension cord. We’ll talk more about those in a moment. It took two installs, uninstalls and re-installs of the driver software to finally get the ‘extend these displays’ option to work correctly for some reason, but once it worked correctly, it was fine.
