About this deal

a big helping of recognisable small town life, a suitably menacing air of malevolence, an undercurrent of suspense, lashings of Yorkshire wit and a seductively simmering relationship between handsome Sansom and the delightful Delilah. With missing washing, produce thefts and inheritance investigations among others they have little time to spare when Mrs Lister visits and insists that her estate agent son, Stuart, is not backpacking abroad and is missing.

While Samson and Delilah combine resources once more, before too long they have become embroiled in untangling this mystery which has lain at the town’s core for decades. Can she forgive his transgressions and help him so that they can find Nathan and the poisoner, or has the poison already spread too far?Caroline Roberts-Cherry, MD, Saffron Cherry Productions, said: “We are incredibly excited to be developing The Dales Detective for television. The endearing inhabitants of Bruncliffe are back, banding together with good old Yorkshire grit, this time to foil an organised crime gang who, improbably, are running a drugs/people trafficking ring out of a bunch of old farm sheds. The only trouble is the townsfolk have long memories and deep grievances when it comes to Samson O’Brien. At the same time, Delilah Metcalfe struggles to hang onto her business: the Dales Dating Agency above water and attempting to control Tolpuddle, her wayward Weimaraner pooch. Having published a series of novels set in the idyllic French Pyrenees, she has now turned her hand to crime.

She spent the majority of that time as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language but also dabbled in bookselling, pawnbroking, waitressing and was once ‘checkout chick of the month’ at a supermarket in South Australia. It tied the narrative strands from the previous books together very well, though I still don't understand exactly how international crime and money laundering work! Full of wit, warmth and characters you'll care about, continue the charming mystery series with Date with Danger.Against the backdrop of a winter in Yorkshire, they have to work together yet again if they are going to uncover the evil that threatens the elderly residents in Bruncliffe. To date, Saffron Cherry has created and produced The Madame Blanc Mysteries for Channel 5 and Acorn TV (a co-production with Clapperboard), the double award winning The World According to Grandpa for Channel 5’s Milkshake! Still, I feel that this is a series that I would advise is best to read from the beginning, which is something that I hope to do in the upcoming months. Fans of the series might find it intriguing to delve into other works by {author name} to see how their writing has evolved or how different themes are explored across their body of work. J'ai retrouvé avec plaisir des personnages que j'aime énormément, la tension palpable, l'humour toujours présent, les émotions démultipliées.

They get better with each book and we get to see more and more characters that add a lot to the story – old people, a rich guy, questionable characters, all together shady characters, a fun as hell cleaner/maid, and so much more! Julia's writing is so descriptive I can visualise myself there in that brutal landscape and hear the accent of the people speaking in this book. Can she forgive his transgressions and help him so that they can find the missing boy and the poisoner, or has the poison already spread too far? The dialogue is funny, notably on the subject of the fledgling romance between Delilah and Samson, where everyone has an opinion and isn’t afraid to voice it, to much squirming and embarrassment from the recipients.I would like to thank Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for an advance copy of Date with Evil, the eighth novel to feature Samson O’Brien and Delilah Metcalfe of the Dales Detective Agency, set in the fictional Yorkshire town of Buncliffe. But in this book, everything fits - and I really think that the author did great work connecting the dots of a complex mystery backstory spread across all the previous books. However what begins as just a simply safety and health investigation quickly takes a more sinister turn when they find evidence that points to murder. Written in 1862, and described more recently as the original Gone Girl, this was a massive success in its time. I'm also so glad the publishers have stuck with Yorkshire's own Emily Sutton as the cover artist, her style is a perfect fit for these stories, whimsical, cosy, and full of love for the dales, great choice! Against the backdrop of a Yorkshire winter, Samson and Delilah must work together once again if they are to uncover the malevolence threatening the elderly residents of Bruncliffe.Poisoned pooches and a missing teenager bring our detective duo back together in Date with Poison the fourth cosy crime novel in Julia Chapman's Dales Detective Agency series. All of the elements of a standard cosy crime novel are present in this latest instalment of the Dales Detective. All the previously laid threads meet here and many are neatly tied up, although there's one more book (at least), so obviously not all of them. Shepherd shows up at the Dales Detective Agency one morning in December, convinced that somebody is trying to kill her, and Samson dismisses all her fears as only the ramblings of one confused old lady.
