Tony Stark has a very simple version of this, where his face plate just slides up or down as necessary. The Fuga is an expensive but very good folding helmet. It folds smaller than most other folding helmets, is one of the easiest helmets to fold, and is aesthetically well designed. It’s also lightweight, easy to grip when carrying it by hand, and stays shut when folded– meaning you can carry it in your hand without it opening up on you. Although it’s overall not great on price, the Fuga is one of the most convenient helmets for commuters. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part: Rex Dangervest's spacesuit helmet splits in half and folds away when he introduces himself. The folding mechanism on this bike helmet is truly impressive. It's all held together with a single clip that's located above the crown of your head. There are hinges on the sides that push inwards when you press on the clip and the helmet folds in itself. While it may sound complicated on paper, the folding process is incredibly easy and takes only a couple of seconds. Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary: Helping Helmets Are Hardly Heroic, the helmets are retractable, so unlike the anime they can be snapped into and out of place reflexively — no need for characters to constantly have them punched off or removed. The heroes actually put them on and off at various times.
Halo 4: The Didact's Helmet takes this a step further by assembling from free floating pieces, along with the rest of his armor. However, there are a number of folding helmets that have come on the market since then which beat out the Pango in most ways. Today’s folding helmets are smaller, lighter, easier to fold, and look better, so it’s no surprise that most people prefer the newer designs instead. Before I go any further with the review, I have to talk about the way this helmet folds. Unlike other folding bike helmets on the market that fold down the middle or along the length, the Closca helmet actually collapses in itself. All you have to do to fold it is to gently press on the top of it, and in a couple of seconds, you'll have a squished helmet! The Park & Diamond is well suited for anyone who wants a helmet that’s relatively discrete— the helmet doesn’t look like you’re wearing a helmet at all, and then once you’re done with it, you can easily roll it up and make it disappear. Unfortunately, the Plico is a bit on the bulkier side and doesn’t fold so compactly. But if you’re looking for a helmet that’s ridiculously easy to fold and unfold, this is the best option. Kang the Conqueror also has a Power Armor including an helmet that comes and goes, with a face shield that give his face the comic-accurate blue color.
At the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the Dramatic Unmask of the Prowler of Earth-42 is done through his menacing mask retracting into the rest of the costume, revealing the face of Miles Morales. The helmet often seems to activate without any apparent interaction or input from the wearer; it just extends or collapses with minimal fuss whenever the situation demands. Very handy for a Dramatic Unmask. Immortals Fenyx Rising uses a magical variant that's used for cutscenes. It's notably timed so it feels like it was always a part of the scene, such as Fenyx equipping it as she braces for the start of a battle well before the scene has actually ended. Downplayed to a lesser extent in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, where Ratchet's Commando helmet has a retractable oxygen mask that extends in certain locations ingame where breathable air isn't abundant, such as in the vaccum of space, underwater, and at high altitudes. Similar to the Mass Effect example, it's more through story as there's no bespoke animation for this.
I love the idea of this helmet, however I did find it to be a little bulky overall, something that the cover accentuates somewhat. Obviously, with a product like this, there are limitations on how much you can ‘slim line’ the design without compromising on the safety elements, though. Collapsibility And now we’re on to the end of our B-list. Which isn’t to say that they serve no purpose, but just don’t expect any jaw-dropping features. This is the hardest category to recommend, as we are not bicycle helmet safety experts. The Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute has a guide on folding helmets, but both this guide and others we’ve seen avoid taking a definitive stance on the helmets’ safety other than mentioning which safety standards the helmets fall under.
Sure, they might cost you a fair bit more than your usual helmet, but it’s always better to be than safe than sorry, and you can’t underestimate the importance of comfort and quality when it comes to keeping you well-protected while out on your bike. In the Stargate movie, the iconic, intricate Egyptian Mythology-inspired helmet/masks of the alien Horus Guards, Anubis, and Ra fold into themselves in an impressive display of digital effects. The FEND is a good choice for anyone looking for an affordable and all-around decent folding helmet.
