About this deal

I just felt like I was missing something- because although the writing wasn't necessarily bad, the story was just really surface-level. Heroine is a doormat that says she isn’t but in the end is and the hero is a jerk, he says he is overprotective but he actually just wants her in a little cage all for himself, they even say that point a bunch of times in the book to him and many times by the heroine but it just vanishes by the end? All her books have these absolutely horrible male leads and the heroines always put a front that they are “independent” of them are wont take their shit, in her books they point out every reason why the relationship wont and shouldn’t work and also how horrible the male lead is and somehow by 80% this is all forgotten.

So already, immediately into the story (we're talking first-page basis)- there was that lack of context and drive, which made it hard to want to keep going. Then she make him wait until she feels ready and know for sure that he want to be with her, because she is tired of waiting him to be ready to date her for years. I don't know why, but this line just made me crack up, because of how comical and goofy the exclamation mark felt.Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of using your words but these words much of the time are just circular reasoning that frankly wore me the fuck out.

I also cannot sit back and appreciate or provide a positve book rating for a book that regularly associates and construes submissiveness or agreeableness with weakeness. I seriously need to tattoo Skyler Mason’s name (the Author) in my brain because I absolutely despise all of her books and i never realise they are by her until i come to goodreads to complain about them. stars rounding up because I like that the author took the risk and the heroine never lost her faith. She enjoys exploring the complexities of human relationships, and her books often feature strong, independent heroines and alpha males who are not afraid to show their vulnerable side. I also loved his perspective of being an atheist, but respecting her wishes for choosing to save everything for marriage. It’s an awakening story, a girl realizing her strict evangelical Christian upbringing has stifled her and not in a good or realistic way. I had to dive into my religious trauma, bathe in it for a while, and then let my characters speak it out of me in a way that often took me by surprise. Because it's so easy to say that these characters have undeniable chemistry, and state that they're attracted to each other, but I wanted to SEE it.

Until we share a kiss that makes the world stand still, and I begin to wonder…maybe I’ve misread him all along. She’s giving up her Purity Contract for an impure one, a checklist of normal college activities that she has avoided because at 13 she promised to do so. But, at the same time, I cannot sit back and be condemned for making a personal choice just because it aligns with that of a terrible movement. This is everything I’ve personally experienced from religious friends and family, so I really related to Livvy and Mari. This book makes it seem like being religious is such an awful thing that keeps you from all the great things in life.I WISH you could see my highlights, but alas, I will not be sharing them with you 😉) Cole is stubborn and delusional when it comes to his own feelings. No matter what her reasons are, her coming on to him while he is clearly rejecting her, is off putting. You would think, the whole set-up of them being really good friends and him always being protective but no he is so annoying.

But despite her wish to get over the hero (Cole), she also wants him to be the one to take her sexual firsts, including her first kiss and virginity? It happens that her best friend, a manwhore who has been in love with her since they met, comes back to town, and she is gonna ask him to take her virginity. They kiss, her first kiss ever, they both loved it, he has all these feelings for her and you know what this fucking piece of shit does?

My issue is that she forced herself to do things that she didn't necessarily seem comfortable with, and I'm not sure I like the message that sends. This is really a beautiful book about exploring a relationship a little deeper into finding that your perfect person has been right next to you this whole time. It turns out that Cole, aka the manwhore, is traumatized with some family stuff and is afraid of commitment. I thought it would be really interesting to read a book that addressed purity culture, within a genre that often tends to stray towards the more virginal/innocent characters- so I thought this had the potential to be really good.
