About this deal

They shared a wonderful day together playing hide-and-seek and enjoying a picnic lunch on a gorgeous summer day.

This absolutely beautifully illustrated picture book lends itself to easily give youngsters a chance to practice position words and make predictions about where the animals might hide in a playground setting. I’m greatly looking forward to reading more from the author and if there is to be a series I’m looking forward to being further traumatized by my childhood. The opening about a family’s drama who lost their five years old daughter at the amusement park in 1974 resulted with park’s closing was also picking your interest from the beginning. This past year I gave away a couple dozen copies of my own picture books along with candy, which was a huge hit. some of the players are modern-world visionaries looking to harness the publicity of the competition to kickstart their brand and some are disadvantaged people who could really use that fifty thou in prize money to, you know, live.

This is very hard to put down, it’s very smart and keeps you guessing to the end, the characterisation is masterful although there are a bunch of them to get your head around. You can help "seek" the friends during each round (some friends hide a little more obviously), and when things get tough, a hug waits at the end. his mother refuses the other 6 kids, Justin, Nia, Quincy and his twin sister Carla, Shae and Lyric to visit at all. It would make for a super holiday read - except that you’ll have it read by the second day of your holiday! I had been eagerly awaiting this book, and unfortunatelyWhen the answers come it is so not what you had in mind but it’s so well thought out in a cleverly executed executed plot? It is not easy to recommend only 5 books, but these are certainly my top favorites both in text and art. This book definitely belongs somewhere in the Middle Grade hall of fame for characters, plot, pacing, stakes and the wild ride it takes the reader on.

It's a fairly clever resolution, though the show-down scene looks at first to be something of a Keystone Cops routine before then turning into the overly-dramatic confrontation scene that Rankin so often insists upon (and so rarely does really convincingly). Hidden somewhere sketchy and thought well I am not getting out of this or gotten lost while trying to find the others. Maybe w/different childhood games(ring around the rosie is starting to creep me out just thinking about it🤣). My only complaint is the abrupt ending to the novel; I wish we had received just a bit more "riding off into the sunset" context to wrap up what all we learned and saw along the way. The words and illustrations are beautifully paired and children will want to invent their own stories about each scene.

I am the author-illustrator of funny picture books for kids, including the interactive book, Animals Go Vroom!

Daka Hermon sets the scene, the fears, the characters perfectly and spins an innocent game of hide and seek into something otherworldly and sinister. I enjoy reading this story from the perspective of a father watching his daughter gain her independence and using melodic metaphors to empower her existence. The book opens when Justin goes to see his friend Zee, who mysteriously disappeared a year earlier and is now back.Overall, I give “Hide” by Kiersten White a 1/5 as it was boring, repetitive, and just not anything that excited me. You never have a moment where you’d mess two characters up, and she ties their individual fears into their characters beautifully. This book creeped me out more than some adult horrors I’ve read AND covered social issues at the same time. and all they have to do to win is scatter and stay hidden from dawn to dusk within the crumbling, overgrown amusement park until one person remains. Lily disappeared when she was three years old during a neighbourhood game of Hide and Seek and was never found.
